Information for Funders - Sustainability

Our aim as a Community Interest Company is to become as financially sustainable as possible. We take on private work such as parties, weddings, festivals and corporate events in order to bring vital revenue into the project. We sell our artwork, crafts and upcycled items. We aim to make the most of our resources and minimise wastage.

We also acknowledge the likely depth of the consequences of the climate crisis for contemporary generations and regularly review our practices in light of this.

We are committed to keeping our carbon footprint as low as possible. When we need to buy resources we ask ourselves the following questions

  • Can we use the resources we already have?

  • Can we source unwanted materials from local businesses, recycling collections, local free sharing groups etc to reuse?

  • Can we source second hand resources?

  • How likely are we to reuse equipment? Would it be more environmentally sound to hire equipment for one off or occasional use?

  • If we need to buy can we source the item from an eco friendly source? Can we support a local business or another CIC?

We incorporate the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle message into all of our projects. A lot of our craft sessions include recycled materials, junk modelling and sustainable ideas. We ensure that we leave each area we use clean and tidy and encourage our service users to recycle their waste. We are keen gardeners, nature lovers and we love spending time outdoors and this passion informs our project planning and delivery.

When we need to travel in our work, wherever possible we car share and take the most environmentally friendly vehicle we have available. It is one of our funding goals to fund a fully electric van so that we no longer have to hire fossil fuel driven vans to transport equipment and staff.

We are also committed to developing sustainable communities. As such, whenever we can we include working with staff at community venues and with parents and volunteers to skill share and offer training so that the impact of our work is multiplied.
